Turner Prize 2013

Gold Gilded Frame.

While I am always pleased to see that the bookies favourite didn’t win, I was disappointed with the result as the Turner Prize winner Laure Prouvost came stumbling to the stage in a typical artist’s mannor. I didn’t engage with her work like others have done, and found  her film quite unappealing.

I would have loved to of seen David Shrigley get the recognition, not only as an artist but as an intelligent comedian whose work often gets overlooked. Although he’s established himself over the last 5 years, it would have been refreshing to see the award given to a light hearted artist who infuses wit into his work, something which the artworld very much lacks.

Other artists whom made it to the shortlist were performance artist Tino Sehgel and painter Lynette Yiadom-Boakye who produced stunning, impromptu portraits.
